About JTMC (Church History)

Jurong Tamil Methodist Church had its humble beginnings in 1975. It was one of the daughter churches of Tamil Methodist Church (Short Street) prioritized for ministry in the Jurong residential area. Under the devoted supervision and care of Mr. and Mrs. JCD Pandian, weekly worship services and prayer meetings took place at their residence.

Following a span of 2 years, The Church was formally constituted in 1977 to serve as God’s beacon of light in the western region of Singapore with 35 members. Mr JCD Pandian was appointed as its Supply Pastor. Through the Church’s outreach ministry, many accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. They were baptized and added to the membership of the church. In 1979, the Church expanded to include 53 members.
In 1981 the church was served by a full time Pastor Rev D Premkumar. By then, the membership had increased to 72. Methodist Men, WSCS (Women’s Society of Christian Service), MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship) and Sunday School functioned very actively. At this time, Mr. Philip Abraham, who was active with the youth group, dedicated himself to full-time ministry. After completing his studies at TTC (Trinity Theological), Rev Philip Abraham is now an ordained Pastor serving several ETAC Churches. He is a blessing to Jurong Tamil Methodist Church which produced a full-time Pastor.

Key Ministries

Witness & Evangelism

Witness and Evangelism is one of the key ministries of JTMC. Once in three months, we go for Block Tracting. We distribute gospel tracts along with some loaves of bread. At times, we are welcomed into their homes to pray for them. They would share their prayer requests with us. We also go for Prayer Walks around the surrounding blocks nearby our church. Sometimes, we go for Prayer Drives, where we go to other locations and pray for people in those areas.

Worship & Music

We have a wonderful choir team that brings vibrancy to our church worship with a mix of traditional hymns and new songs each week. The entire service is filled with God’s presence. Certain songs move worshippers and evoke deep emotional responses. Our Pastor delivers God’s Word in Tamil and uses slides in English. The sermon features a strong explanation of the biblical text along with illustrations.

Disciple & Nurture

Mid-Week Bible study and Prayer: Our Mid-Week Bible Study and Prayer is held every Wednesday via zoom from 7.30pm until 9pm. It is conducted by our Pastor.
Monthly Fasting and Prayer: Monthly Fasting Prayer is held on the first Saturday of each month, via zoom. A brief sermon is delivered by our pastor followed by prayers. We pray for our church members, ETAC Pastors, sick and needy, Missionaries and for other countries
All Evening Prayer: Twice in a year, we conduct all Evening Prayer. This will be held on a Wednesday, at church, from 7.30pm to 9pm. We pray for specific church ministries, sick and for urgent needs.
Church Bible Quiz: We conduct Church Bible Quiz once a year along with various other segments. It is conducted among WSCS, Methodist Men and the Youths. Prizes are awarded as well.
Drama Event: This initiative aims to motivate WSCS, Methodist Men and the Youths to perform a drama based stories of revivalists and missionaries.
Cell Groups: Cell groups are held at three different locations. Members staying in the vicinity gather in that location, at a member’s residence. There will be a brief sharing from the Bible Characters followed by sharing of testimonies and prayer.

Youth Ministry

Youth Ministry is held on alternate Sundays at 2pm. They engage in worship, Bible Study, fellowship and discuss various topics to provide insights to the youth. Youths are also taught on how to share gospel to their friends. Youths also assist in setting up and slide projection during church services and special programs.

Sunday School

Sunday School is held alongside our church services. Teachers teach the Sunday School children biblical stories, action songs, creative activities and memory verses. Every fourth Sunday of the month, the Sunday School children recite memory verses during our church services.

Methodist Men

Methodist Men gather in a home for their bible study. Special speakers are invited. Every second week of the month, after our church service, Methodist Men gather at the chapel for a prayer session. Every Sunday, Methodist Men also help in setting up the chairs and tables for the fellowship that follows church services. They also go for special outings.

Young Adults’ Fellowship

Young Adults’ Fellowship (Thursday Nite Connections) is held once in a month, on a Thursday, at the church, starting at 7.30pm. Guest speakers are invited to share and discuss on special topics. YAF organises cycling event which involves the whole church.

Women come together and pray before the Sunday Service. WSCS retreat is held annually for our women. There is a Hannah prayer too. We visit the elderly women, sick, new-borns and those in mourning.
