About PPTMC (Church History)

Pasir Panjang Tamil Methodist Church (PPTMC) is among the oldest of the eight Tamil Methodist churches in Singapore. Established in 1927 at Alexandra Brickworks, it began as a small chapel serving Christian Tamil workers. In 1970, the church relocated to 85 Wishart Road in Telok Blangah. The first phase of the current church building was completed in 1976, and, to accommodate a growing congregation, a second floor was added in 1986.
Across the decades, PPTMC has stood as a faithful beacon steadfast in spirit, ever seeking new ways to nurture its church family and extend compassionate care to the wider community. Guided by God’s gracious hand, the church has been lovingly shaped and strengthened from one generation to the next. Today, three generations lift their voices in worship and prayer beneath a single roof, a living tapestry of faith woven through time.
On the third Sunday of each month, the fellowship deepens: Methodist Men, WSCS, Youth, and Young Adults gather in focused prayer, interceding for the church and its ministry. In these devoted moments, legacy meets longing, and hope is renewed for the work yet to be done.

Key Ministries

Worship & Music

At the heart of our Sunday’s worship beats the Worship and Music Ministry. The team is devoted to crafting a worship experience that is both rich in reverence and alive with praise. A dedicated roster of worship leaders and backing vocalists serves in rotation, supported by gifted musicians and meticulous coordinators who shape weekly arrangements and prepare the Sunday worship slides with care.
Each Sunday afternoon, the sanctuary hums with rehearsal as songs are prayerfully chosen to proclaim the goodness of the Lord.
Our worship services incorporates the timeless beauty of traditional hymns while joyfully embracing the freshness of contemporary worship during singspiration.
The exhortation is usually delivered by our pastors, our lay leader, and invited pastors’ voices calling the congregation to deeper faith and faithful living.
Beyond Sunday, the church gathers every Friday, both on-site and via Zoom for Praise and Prayer. It is here that heartwarming experiences are heard and prayer requests are prayed over with anticipation.
Our greatest joy is the rising generation of servant leaders who are stepping forward to lead worship. A vibrant team of young adults’ shepherds the ministry with creativity and commitment, pouring out their time and love for the Lord so that the song of the church may continue to resound from age to age.

Witness & Evangelism

Witness and Evangelism remains a radiant heartbeat of our church’s mission. Through a tapestry of ministries the love of Christ is magnified.
The ministry consists of the Prison Ministry, which shares Christ’s love through faithful befriending the families of the inmates.
Our members lovingly follow up with new believers by phone and through regular outreach at Teck Whye Outreach, extending warmth, guidance, and prayerful companionship as faith takes root.
On the fourth Sunday of each month, we open our arms in a time of healing prayer for all who seek the gentle touch of God’s presence. And the Lord, in His kindness, continues to add to our number: new sheep have offered their lives to Him, entering the fold through the sacrament of Baptism.

Disciple & Nurture

Each Sunday, the living Word is faithfully proclaimed by Rev Philip Abraham and Rev Prabhu. Though the sermons are primarily preached in Tamil, sermon slides in English are projected. Twice each month, we gather for in-depth Bible studies on-site and via Zoom where Scripture is explored with both rigor and reverence. Daily devotional books in Tamil and English accompany believers through the week, while vibrant Care Groups offer fellowship, prayer, and mutual encouragement. Our annual Bible Quiz brings the Scriptures to life with joyful learning and spirited participation. To keep hearts kindled between gatherings, devotional messages are regularly shared with members via WhatsApp. Care groups gather every last Friday of the month. The young adults lead such groups in the homes of our members.

Sunday School

At Pasir Panjang Tamil Methodist Church, our Sunday School warmly welcomes children aged 3 to 16, guiding young hearts to grow in faith, character and community. Our prayerful vision is simple and steadfast: that every child will receive the Lord as their personal Saviour, take root in Scripture, and reflect Christ’s love in everyday life at home, in school, and among friends Each year unfolds under a thoughtful theme. The lessons are woven with worship, Bible stories, memory verses, and hands-on activities that deepen the understanding of the Word. Interactive games and engaging PowerPoint presentations help bring God’s Word to life, turning learning into joyful discovery. Along the way, special programmes for Children’s Day and Christmas add sparkle to the journey, creating cherished memories as faith takes shape in the hearts of the next generation.

Our Youth and Young Adult Fellowship gathers monthly in prayer, a circle of rising leaders whose hearts beat for God and His church. They serve at the core of church life as Sunday School teachers, backing vocalists in morning worship, and ministry chairpersons within the Local Church Executive Committee. As they pour themselves into service, they are also being formed: growing in faith, deepening in character, and helping to shape the future of our congregation. We hold our youth close, for they are both our present and our promise. The church is intentional in nurturing, supporting, and expanding their capacities for God’s purposes, encouraging gifts, cultivating leadership, and guiding them into mature discipleship. Each youth is also paired with a dedicated prayer warrior who faithfully covers them in personal prayer, lifting their needs, dreams, and journeys before the Lord. In this sacred partnership, a generation is strengthened, and hope takes root

The Methodist Men gather monthly to pray, encourage one another, and strengthen their walk with the Lord. This brotherhood creates space for authenticity and growth, sharpening men through Scripture, testimony, and mutual support. The ministry also hosts one-day retreats that offer deeper fellowship and renewal, as well as cottage fellowships in members’ homes, where brothers in Christ take turns to share devotions and build each other up in faith. As spiritual heads of homes and servants in the church, our men are a cherished focus of ministry. We are intentional about equipping them to lead with humility, courage, and grace so that as they lead their families well, they also help to anchor and advance the life of the church.

The WSCS beats at the heart of our church an ever-faithful rhythm of service, prayer, and sisterly fellowship. The ministry consists of the monthly prayer meetings guided by a thoughtfully prepared prayer journal; tender birthday visitations for elderly women; blessing sessions spoken over brides-to-be and mothers-to-be; cottage prayer and fellowship sessions; bible studies and a Christmas celebration at Bethany Nursing Home that carries joy into sacred spaces of need. Some of the women have faithfully served together with the Singapore Prison Fellowship. They regularly connect with the inmates’ families, offering moral support through calls, visits and prayers. Each Sunday, their love is tasted in the simple grace of coffee prepared and served after worship at a table where conversations bloom and community is warmed. Through the week and across the year, they continue to nurture: e-birthday cards sent to the ladies, Bible studies spotlighting women in Scripture, cozy cottage fellowships, restorative WSCS retreats, and radiant Mother’s Day celebrations. Quietly beneath it all, Secret Prayer Partners are formed to uphold each other with steadfast intercession.
