2 years later in 1887, C W Underwood, a Tamil preacher was recruited from Jaffna, Ceylon to work with the Tamil people in Singapore. This was when the Tamil Methodist Church was established in Singapore with Underwood as her Pastor. In 1889, the congregation under Rev Underwood moved to Short Street. The church launched its building fund in 1915 towards efforts to build a church on a piece of land on Short Street. In 1925, the foundation stone for the new church was laid by Bishop Titus Lowe. After 1925, when the church premises were completed, the church turned its attention to evangelistic work. The Tamil Methodist Church Short Street is today the mother- church of seven other churches of the ETAC (Emmanuel Tamil Annual Conference)
